 Mission Teams Provide Help

Sunset Drive Church

Open hearts. Open minds. Open doors.

General Descriptions: Those efforts by Sunset Drive United Methodist Church to follow Christ's example of Loving Our Neighbor by reaching out to those in need in our community and beyond.

Examples of outreach missions that we regularly engage in are:
Meals on Wheels
Government funded hot meals are delivered to qualified citizens by church members every seventh week. Volunteers provide a vehicle and about 2 hours per day in this activity.

Discretionary Funds for Emergency Situations
Funds are provided for qualified community persons in emergency situations. Funds, when available, assist for such things as electricity cut offs, groceries, etc.

Mission Trips
These team trips are to in-state or out-of-state locations as need arises. In recent years several days-to-a-week in duration trips have been taken to Virginia, West Virginia, and Mississippi. These are work trips usually to assist with natural disaster results. These work trips are funded by the congregation. In addition to general support through conference, the congregation supports a missionary to Tonga, Bob May, a local resident when not in mission. Other local individual, short duration mission trips have been supported over the years, i.e. Africa, Eastern Europe, Australia, Indian Ocean.

Habitat for Humanity
A program which provides homes to deserving local families who are willing to invest in them. Our church frequently provides funds and construction labor in this cooperative program
